"Bird In Flight," by Constantin Brancusi, 1923
He
concentrated not on the physical aspects of the bird but on it's
movement. In "Bird In Space" wings and feathers are eliminated, the
swell of the body is elongated, and the head and the beak are reduced to
a slanted oval plane. Balanced on a slender conical footing, the
figure's upward thrust is unfettered. Brancusi's inspired abstraction
realizes his stated intent to capture "the essence of flight." -The

ReplyDeleteIm not sure how to attach an image, but above is the link to the sculpture that caught my eye. Its Mask:Antelope (Walu) It was made in the 19-20th century and inspired by the Dogon People. Im really into skulls, antlers and taxidermy objects. I found this to be similar but somewhat futuristic because of the silver plating or wood rather. This drew me in most because its animal inspired and incredibly unique. Its so strange that you want to keep analyzing it over and over.

Date: 19th–20th century
This is an African art sculpture that was made in the 19th-20th century. It has very exaggerated proportions that display the beauty of it. All the details on the sculpture have a purpose and explanation.The name akua ba comes from the Akan legend of a woman named Akua who was barren, but like all Akan women, she desired most of all to bear children. Overall I think it is a very interesting sculpture that has a story behind it.

In 1968 Ruth Duckworth began making "wall sculptures"-monumental murals that underscore the artist's mastery of her medium. Combining geometric and organic forms, she reduces the subdivided planes to the most elemental abstractions. With its circles and subtly curved forms, this relief suggests the female body. Duckworth, however, sees the inherent sensuality as stemming from a more universal connection to nature, biology, and the cosmos.

In this sculpture, the artist is trying to show us how do people these days have multiple identities, and that these identities are shown differently through social media, and our physical life. he is trying to show us how representation has changed
in a time of social media and internet.
Also, the artist used people's Facebook profiles to create sculptures, to create a representation of ourselves that is stuck between the digital life and our real physical life.

Inspiration: The sculpture in this work of art is very colorful and different which attracted me to it. The shape and also the choice of colors is very original along with the form of the work of art. His work prompts the question about what sculpture could and should be today. He is looking at the relationship between material, its handling and meaning. This work of art could hold something in the center but also could be moved or turned and positioned on another side and thats what stood out to me.

Description: This sculpture looks very old with chipping paint of whites, blues, and greens. It has pointed edges and looks like it has balance. It says in 1945 Kurt lived in the Ambleside lake district so I that he may have been inspired by the movements of the water because of the shape and the blues and the green.

Inspiration: I like the stone sculpture look. It's fancy in a way, but not, at the same time. The artist took stone-carving classes, and has many more than just this piece. He likes to create illusions out of the pieces. I like the piece because theres holes, and lots of shadow and shapes around it. It keeps your eye searching for what else it on it.
